Jalousie Plantation: "Perfection for honeymooners..."
Jun 1, 2005 charlo0521, Laurel, MD

Just returned from our 7 day honeymoon at Jalousie Resort and Spa. We loved our honeymoon experience! The hotel is very secluded, quiet, and very beautiful- perfect for a honeymoon. We never even saw our neighbors until we checked out 7 days later!

"This villa had the MOST BEAUTIFUL view I've ever seen in my life!!!!"

I asked for a villa with a plunge pool in the upper #s. We ended up in what they said was the best villa there- #701. This villa had the MOST BEAUTIFUL view I've ever seen in my life!!!!

Jalousie Plantation: "Return to Paradise"

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Jalousie. This was our second visit, celebrating our 10th anniversary. First time was 5 years ago, again celebrating our anniversary. The resort maintained its high level product through the years. We never go anywhere twice because we like trying new things, but this resort is truly worth the return visit. From Charlie greeting us at the lobby door to Lisa Jones, the concierge, handling every plan perfectly for us, to the great dive shop and spa, the experience was first class.

"Bottom line, this place should be #1 on the island, and possibly in the Top 5 in the Caribbean. Might see you there in five years."

Jalousie Plantation: "Lush & Luxury"

My husand and I vacationed at the Jalousie from May 1 to May 8 and had a wonderful experience.

Room: We stayed in the Ocean View Villa Suite witht the Plunge Pool (Villa 210). We had the most amazing view of the Petit Piton, and the pool was large and clean. There was a large bedroom, a bathroom with two showers (although the standing shower did not work - but they did come to repair it), a living room with pull out couch & 'fridge, and the patio with the pool. Also one of the great things - air conditioning! It was really hot during our stay, and was nice to come into the cool air conditioned room. Housekeeping came twice a day to clean the room (morning and turn down service at night), and put flower petals on the bed each night. Our room was a great location because you could walk to the beach and to the restruants and not have to call a shuttle (even thought the shuttles always showed up in less than 5 minutes).

Location: The best spot on the island! Located between the two Pitons it is in a secluded valley witht a beautiful beach. Go to the top at the Oasis Spa - the view is amazing. Sunsets on the beach each night were breathtaking.

Beach: Very secluded - lots of shaded areas when the sun was too hot, plenty of lounge chairs and tiki huts - we never had trouble finding a chair, and the hotel was completly booked on several of the days we were there. There are complimentary water activites available for guests of the hotel (snorkel masks & fins, kyaks, windsails, etc.).

Food: The food was really good - but really expensive. My husband and I ate the Bayside on our first night and had a very good buffet - lost of choices with seafood, chicken, salads, and dessert - we each got 1 Pina Colada - and our bill was $140 US! To me that is too pricy for a buffet. Breakfast was also really good - made to order eggs, french toast, bacon, juice, etc, but too expensive - $65 for 2 for a breakfast buffet! However, they do have an all inclusive plan ($150 per/day per/person), and a "Modified American Plan" ($75 per/day, per/person). They do not offer these plans unless you ask, but we went for the Modified American Plan which included breakfast and dinner (no lunch and no beverages), and think that was the best option. The Plataion restraunt is nice, but we liked The Pier. Go at 6:30pm, when it opens and you can watch the sunset while you eat - it is really beautiful. The food at the Pier is a combination of a la carte & buffet - really tasty - have the Marshmallow & Sambucca BBQ for dessert - it was a lot of fun! The herb salad dressing is delicous - my husband liked it so much, that we asked it they sell it - they do not, however the waiter had the chef give us the recipe so we could make it when we got home!

We had lunch on the beach a few times - if you order on the beach it is less - about $12 US for a hamburger or ham & cheese sandwich. There are flags on the beach, and all you have to do is put it up, and they waiters come over.

Remember, that all food prices on the menus do not include the 10% Hotel Service charge, and 8% tax. Tips are not included (the tip is not the "surcharge), but they were greatly apperciated by the staff.

Drinks: The drinks were great - very strong! However, also very expensive for mixed drinks (2 Rum Punch Drinks on the beach= $18 US).
My husband and I wanted Apple Juice to bring back to the room, so we asked for a bottle - they sold us a bottle of Mott's Apple Juice for $22 US - but we bought it because we were thirsty! Beer was inexpensive - $3.75 US for Heinken, Corona, and Piton (local beer). If you plan on staying at the hotel and drinking a lot it is probaly best to do the all inclusive.

Entertainment: There were a few nights they had music on the beach, but not a lot of entertainment otherwise. We wanted to go to the show at The Bang on Wednedsay night, but it was closed - Jalousie has just bought it, and were renovating. There is 1 bar open at night - the Palm Court - it has a great view of the beach and the Pitons.

Rental car vs. Taxi: We rented a car for the week, but returned it after 1 day. The roads are very curvy & very steep! We got our rental car and the gas was almost on empty so we drove around looking for a gas stations. The locals were helpful in giving us directions when we went the wrong way (people will stop you and tell you to turn around it you are going the wrong way), but a few locals then asked for money or a ride after approaching our car. We returned the rental car after 1 day and decided to take taxis instead. Ask for Super C to be your taxi driver - he was great! It was a little less expensive to get a rental car if you plan on doing a lot of driving & exploring, but the safety and convience of the taxi is worth the few extra dollars.

Things to do: We did a lot of things during our trip - here are my top recomendations: 1) Go to Castries to do your shopping - if you want to get souvierniers this is the place to do it - not much else besides a market though. There is also a grocery store where you can pick up rum, beer, snacks, etc. 2) Take a water taxi - this is the best way to travel & see the island - we took a water taxi to Marigot Bay & Castries for the day - they driver will stay with you (ask for Randolph and he will set you up with someone - Curtis was our Captain and he was really nice, and gave us a great tour) - $165 US for the day. 3) Diamond Waterwall & Botanical Garden: A nice hike and beatiful spot 4) Soufriere Waterfall - you can go into the waterfall - small and not as popular as the Diamond Waterfall but a great spot to check out 5) Cabana Massage at the Oasis - Sparkle & Vernaka gave my husand and I side by side massages at the top of the resort - a wonderful relaxing experience. 6) WATCH THE SUNSET ON THE PIER OR THE BEACH - so beautiful and differnent every night

Overall: A wonderful experience. The staff was very nice, the hotel was very secluded, which nice is you want a more private vacation. I would recomend to anyone to take a trip to the Jalousie.

The St. Luica motto is: Work Less, Sail Fast, Live Slow. Relax and enjoy the vacation!
